1. Formal Cover Letter
A formal cover letter indicates a candidate interest in applying for a particular job.

This includes:
¨ his/her personal particulars (i.e. name, address, tel no).
¨ simple salutation (i.e. Good Day or Dear Sir/Mdm).
¨ position applied should be bold and usually underlined to indicate the
   recruiter/s attention.
¨ Beginning with self introduction, educational background, past and present
   working responsibilities, strengths (i.e. honesty, reliable, responsible and etc)
¨ talk about why the candidate is able to suit into that particular position.

2. Heading
¨ this is the content in the resume.
¨ never jumble or leave no spacing.
¨ separate the subjects altogether (i.e. personal particulars must not mixed
   with educational background or  working experiences)

3. Personal Particulars
¨ this contains personal information about the candidate.
¨ name, address, I/C No, age, marital status, nationality, contact nos. or
   e-mail address, availability to start work and perhaps nos. of leave to offset.

4. Educational Background
¨ starting from highest level.
¨ year commencement and year graduation.

5. Working Experience/s
¨ starting from latest employment inclusive of date.
¨ description of job responsibilities (note: never leave crucial information out).
¨ reporting to any particular superior.
¨ leadership role in the company (could well be a project leader or
   managing people for some projects involved).
¨ industry of the company (i.e. I.T. Logistics, Chemical and etc).
¨ reason for leaving.
¨ current remuneration.

6. Overall Knowledge & Skills
¨ related skills gotten while working.
¨ could be anything like typing speed, certain hardware and software skills/knowledge.

7. Interests & Hobbies
¨ this could be important especially for some organizations who are actively
   involved in outdoor or indoor activities.

8. Clubs/Organizations
¨ member of professional bodies or clubs (i.e. computer society, membership
   clubs and etc).

9. Reference/Referee
¨ another way for organization to know you from other source / medium.

10. Expected Salary
¨ it is important to indicate your expected salary as some organizations have
   certain budgets pertaining to recruitment.

11. Bonus
¨ an important tool for company to gauge annual income.

1. What makes you love your job?
¨ The job challenges me in just the right way.
¨ I have the right amount of autonomy, responsibility, and independence in
   decision making.
¨ My job has developed along with me.
¨ There are a lot of opportunities for me to develop something of my own.
¨ I have some degree of persuassion within the organisation (my ideas can result
   in some policy changes)
¨ My family feels positive about my work here.
¨ I feel a sense of achievement and personal pride here.
¨ My manager recognises and appreciates my achievements.
¨ I can express my creativity.
¨ I like the pace in the organisation.
¨ I'm learning new skills and getting valuable experience.
¨ My job doesn't demand me to behave like someone else.
¨ It's the work I inherently enjoy. I love my job duties. Very satisfying.
¨ The job is fun.
¨ I look forward to doing it just about every day!!!

2. Do & Don'ts before the interview
Do :
Be prepared - The better prepared you are for the interview, the more confidence
you will project.

Organised yourself ahead of time - Don't go into the interview room feeling sweaty -it's rude.

Slow yourself down - Relax well and smile always.

Making sure you look your best - It is one of the winning factors for you.

Read about the company, know very well the position applying for.

Go over in your mind the vision of you working in the organisation - your strengths, your success, your enthusiasm, your confidence, and your interaction skill with the interviewer will improved

Be patient if the interviewer is running late.

Be pleasant to all receptionist and administrative personnel. If someone tries to communicate with you, participate diplomatically.

Smile always.

Don't :
Bring someone with you.

Smoke, chew gum or eat.

Wear sunglasses indoors.

Bring a shopping bag or gym bag to the interview.

Apply make-up or touch up or look at yourself at the small personal mirror at the reception.

Pester or brush off a receptionist

Ask to use the telephone

Hum, whistle, rustle paper, swirl the chair, flipping papers, last minute organising file, etc.

Play a walkman or portable stereo.

Read any book or magazine whose subject matter is likely to raise an eyebrow.

Have funny or out of this world comments, actions, and behaviour….
